Deactivation of mycotoxins

Those engaged in feed and intensive animal industry are aware of possible mycotoxin contamination of feed.

A number of confirmed and suspected cases of mycotoxicoses in poultry, pigs and cattle have been reported world-wide. However, these reports only represent the tip of the iceberg as experience has shown that mycotoxins are unlikely to cause overt disease problems. Rather, their effects are likely to be insidious and often go unnoticed unless careful observation is made and detailed records are kept.

As animal industry is geared to maximum performance, factors that had been considered of minor importance in the past tend to become increasingly important. Mycotoxins could easily tip the balance resulting in mediocre production instead of a very good one. In other words, problems associated with fungi growth on feed can have serious economic consequences.

The ever increasing number of reports on the presence of mycotoxins in feeds and foods dictates the exigency for practical and economical detoxification procedures. A number of approaches had been taken to counteract these undesirable compounds, but only a few showed practical application.

However, by means of the development of Mycofix® a break-through has been achieved in the successful fight against mycotoxins.
